We are proud to introduce the Mindful Resistance Series for Social Activists, co-presented with Shelly Tygielski. We will be bringing together panelists and subject-matter experts (if you know someone who can contribute, send them my way!) to discuss the topics of dealing with the anger, hurt and hate that wears on ones life, resilience and sustaining activism and raising socially conscious children in today’s world.

Sunday, February 25th

Time: 5 PM – 6:30 PM

Workshop: Learning to Love our Enemy

Description: Drawing on ancient spiritual wisdom, modern psychology, and the latest neuroscience, this panel discussion will explore how to deal with troublesome people and situations, how we can overcome the real source of our distress and addressing our deep-seated self-centeredness and self-hatred. Panelists will offer practical methods for transforming our relationship to our outer and inner enemies.

Moderator: Shelly Tygielski

Panelists: To be announced

Sunday, March 25th

Time: 5 PM – 6:30 PM

Workshop: Self-Care for Political Activists

Description: Attendees will be provided with practical tools to carry them into the 2018/2020 election WITHOUT experiencing burnout by a panel of health and wellness practitioners and mindfulness researchers.

Panel will address the “psychology of deprivation” among feminist activists who, while doing largely unpaid work, slowly evolve into exhaustion and eventual burnout. In order to continue to propel this movement forward and bring about change, this workshop for self-care is one attempt to reject an unhealthy model that has been internalized: that it’s necessary to sacrifice our well-being in order to make change.

Panelists: To be announced

Sunday, April 8th

Time: 5 PM – 6:30 PM

Workshop: Raising Socially-Conscious Sons and Daughters

Description: In an age of discontent, this panel discussion explores and raises parents’ awareness of how we see the world and people in it and how parents unconsciously pass off their biases to their children. Child psychologists, mindfulness teachers and other experts will provide tips and tools that can help revolutionize the way we raise our children. Topics covered will include: how to start the conversation; how to answer your children’s questions to eliminate the “awkward pause” and moments of fear or doubt; how to support your child’s learning around this topic; how to create a safe space for your children to talk about all the things that keep us silent and separate from the people we perceive to be different.
